We produce all our projectile coatings in-house and have been since the late 80’s.
Unlike some coated projectiles on the market our coating goes beyond a simple barrier between your barrel and the lead alloy core, our coating is a specialised bonded lubricant that minimises barrel cleaning, reduces smoke and virtually eliminates airborne lead at the firing point. Low friction coefficient results in lower chamber pressures for given velocities. Our coatings contain no hygroscopic materials (ie. Molybdenum).
Coating HistoryWe started working with bonded coated projectile lubricants around the mid 80’s, initially this was driven by the need for a heat stable and more robust type of lubricant alternative to the traditional waxed lubes. Some of our customers with high speed commercial loaders here in Australian found the wax lubed projectiles less than ideal with our summers temperatures reaching over 40C (104F). After extensive R&D and live fire testing we produced our first dry bonded projectile coating in the late 80’s, little did we know at the time this style of lubricant was to soon to replace wax based lubricants for all commercially produce lead projectiles in Australia. Our projectiles with this coating were in 1989 awarded the exclusive WA Police tender contract to supply .38 Special projectiles for officer training, further tender contracts with the WA Police and the WA Correctional Services followed. When the WA Police transitioned to the .40S&W pistol we again were awarded the exclusive tender contract to supply coated training projectiles. In the early 90’s other brands of coated projectiles were available in the Australia market, this coating was being offered to the commercial manufactures but after our own testing we decided to concentrate on producing our own projectile coatings. We felt the only way to guarantee consistency and meet our quality requirements was to evolve our own line of 100% in-house produced coatings. We currently produce projectiles with our signature “GOLD SUPREME” coating and our long established “BLACK PREMIUM” coating.
Coating SalesWe are able to offer our projectile coating to “commercial projectile manufacturers” worldwide. Our unique coating comes as a concentrate, requires no catalyst or hardeners and is simple to apply with a long shelf life. We can offer extensive product support with staff with over 20 years experience in projectile casting, dry lube coating and live fire testing. Currently we are unable to supply small quantities for home/hobby users due to packaging and transport requirements. Shown here are projectiles coated with our BLACK PREMIUM coating in popular calibres. (L to R) .45 ACP & 230grn RN, 40 S&W & 180grn RNFP, 9mm Luger & 147grn FP, 135grn RN, 125grn CN
Coating DurabilityTo demonstrate the toughness and durability of our coatings the following photos show the results of some of our testing. The first series of photos showing three .45 ACP 230grn RN BLACK PREMIUM projectiles fired at blank point range (@ ~830fps) from a Glock pistol into a ballistic rubber bullet trap, the projectiles were recovered after penetrating ~50cm/20″. The fourth projectile to the right of the picture is an unfired example. Note how the coating on the fired projectiles is still virtually 100% intact even after this aggressive deceleration. The following photo is of a .40 180grn FP. The projectile on the right has been subjected to a crush test, note the coating is still intact with no cracking or flaking even at the sharp edge. The projectiles meplat (flat tip) has increased in size by over 70%. |
